So I posted this (http://johnpavlovitz.com/2017/07/21/please-stop-calling-suicide-selfish/) link and I have someone reply with “is the word cowards better?” and that made me stop and think.
It is 2017. Yet suicide is still seen as “selfish” or “cowards.”
This reminded me that in my choice to be a therapist, coach, and trainer, I have taken a stand in the world and in my community to educate people and to raise their awareness.
Suicide is often linked to depression which can also be linked to substance use thus co-occurring issues are in existence.
Also something else that is important to note is that depression looks different for men and women. Women tend to be episodic in their depression and men tend to have persistent depression with consequences like substance abuse and suicide.
First seek to understand.
And just because you don’t understand does not mean you have to judge it or shut it down.
